.... what do they want, anyway?

I was thinking, just the day that happened..... what the hell are they thinking? That Tony Blair or whoever would come to TV and say "okay, terrorist guys, you won... tell what do you want, and we will be doing that for you, so you guys leave us alone"

it seems like terrorists have an objective, but all they have is hate. the recent acts had nothing to do with the war in iraq. for example, 9-11. which were osama's reasons? which war was he trying to stop?

Now back to the original topic and a bit more on brazilians that just want to exhibit themselves and their flags to appear on TV: only the last year, only in São Paulo (don't know if the whole state or only in the capital) over than 700 persons were killed by the police.
I don't recall seeing anything proportional, in popular manifestations or in media attention, to what's happening because one brazilian was killed in London.  |(

Yeah, and I saw, this weekend, that small city of Jean showing that ridiculous "PIECE" flag brazilians love to show to the drug-dealers, especially in Rio... what the hell! It seems they just HAD to do that!

Wow! that's an amazing statistic.

In my city of 2.5 million people we have about 60 people murdered every year - usually only 1 or 2 by police.

Your statistic may help explain why MINUSTAH, headed by Brazilian military/police, is said to be responsible for so many murders in Haiti.

i had never heard of this minustah...
well, you have to consider that são paulo has 10 million people. the "big são paulo"(the metropolitan area of são paulo) has about 18 million.
and, of course, you're in canada and we're in brazil. hehe

about minustha:
Citar
On July 6, 2005, in a deadly early morning attack, on the residents of Site Soleil, a community of over 350,000 of Haiti's poorest Haitians, over 350 UN troops from MINUSTHA under the command of a Brazilian general, left 27 Haitian civilians wounded and more than 23 dead, including a young 22 year-old Haitian mother, Sonia Romelus, who was killed by the same bullet that passed through the body of her 1-year old  infant son, Nelson. Her 4-year old son, Stanley Romelus, who was sleeping next to his mother and brother was killed instantly by a single shot to the head. This is the brutal nature of the war being waged on the poor in Haiti.
