Slavery by Another Name: The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War II is a Pulitzer Prize-winning book by American writer Douglas A. Blackmon.[1]
The book explores the forced labor of imprisoned African American men and women through the convict lease system used by southern states, local governments, white farmers, and corporations after the American Civil War until World War II in the southern United States. Blackmon presents evidence that slavery in the United States did not end with the Civil War, instead persisting well into the 20th century.[2]

Slavery by Another Name is also the title of a 90-minute documentary film (based on the book) that premiered on PBS in February 2012 and can be viewed online.[3] The film was executive produced by Catherine Allan of Twin Cities Public Television, co-executive produced by Mr. Blackmon, directed by Sam Pollard (4 Little Girls and When the Levees Broke), written by Sheila Curran Bernard, and narrated by Laurence Fishburne. Slavery by Another Name premiered in competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2012.[4]

Exato. Eles sempre fizeram aquilo, a derrota na guerra dificilmente criaria repentina mudança de consciência ou postura neles. Continuaram a fazer.
Ao que parece, o processo nos EUA isso demorou 70 anos.

Jeito engraçado de dizer, cria umas imagens mentais dignas daqueles clipes nonsense do "family guy". Como um cara chicoteando um negro aleatório na rua e mandando que faça algo, e ele diz, "ei, mas o que é isso, está pensando que sou seu escravo?", "desculpe, é a força do hábito".
