Dick speculates that a decipherable message from extraterrestrial intelligence could initiate an interstellar exchange of knowledge in various disciplines, including whatever religions an extraterrestrial civilization may host.[75] Billingham further suggests that an extremely advanced and benevolent extraterrestrial civilization might put an end to present-day religious conflicts and lead to greater religious toleration worldwide.[76] On the other hand, Jill Tarter puts forward the view that contact with extraterrestrial intelligence might eliminate religion as we know it and introduce humanity to an all-encompassing faith.

Tem alguma coisa que não tenha sido abordada na wikipédia?    Parece até que se bobear se encontra algo como "interpretações religiosas quanto a possibilidade de hibridação entre Homo sapiens e neandertais, e possíveis implicações para a existência de uma linhagem ininterrupta de neandertais pré-adâmicos"


Me parece que a maior questão é se vão conseguir reinterpretar as coisas de forma a fazer sentido a aderência dos ETs à religião que seguem, ao mesmo tempo em que as religiões ETs devem ser interpretadas como erradas até para eles, e incompatíveis especialmente aos humanos.

Realmente abalaria, mas não acho que seria algo "forte" o suficiente para diminuir significadamente o número de religiosos cristãos principalmente, eles como sempre iriam fazer um malabarismo, com tal descoberta para tentar encaixar na bíblia (já vi alguns falando que a bíblia não nega a existência de vida extraterrestre, e até da a entender que eles podem existir), ou como foi dito, simplesmente negaria e irá dizer que é mentira, é falso, não tem evidências, e as evidências na verdade não são evidências, que a ciência já cometeu vários erros... etc.

Realmente, a falácia epitesmoloidista de que a "religião, diferentemente da ciência, não possui mecanismos de autocorreção", se vê claramente. Afinal, se é só uma questão de eficiência em tempo, só se poderia classificar por graus de excelência. Um dia a igreja tirou o livro de Copérnico do index; um dia o papa desculpou-se ao póstumo Galileu; um dia, a "comunidade científica" aceitou a revolução wegeneriana também, entre tantas outras rendições à própria teimosia religiosa. Nunca assumir posições definitivas é prerrogativa de crentes, de fato, pois todos, mais cedo ou mais tarde, mudam suas posições sem mudar. Mudar a posição sem mudar é ausência de radicalismo, exatamente como prescreve a contaminação filosófica que "se instaurou" no (pseudo)universo científico, contaminação que dopa pobres estudantes sem defesas.

Tomar decisões definitivas, estabelecer conceitos de modo definitivo e abandonar tudo tão definitiva e completamente quanto é privilégio só de pensadores científicos.

Aliás, tem alguma descoberta cientifica que pode acabar com a crença das pessoas em deuses?

Claro que sim! Descobertas em neurocognição, paralelamente a desenvolvimentos tecnológicos que permitam suficiente acesso e controle aos processos cerebrais poderão corrigir o distúrbio da crença e terminar com as divindades rápida e facilmente.
